The name Titop originates from a special event on November 22, 1962, when President Ho Chi Minh and cosmonaut Gherman Titov visited Ha Long Bay. From then on, the name Titop was born, replacing old names like Cat Nang or Hong Thap Tu, bringing a new and proud meaning.
Before being named Titop, the island was known as Hong Thap Tu because of a sad event in 1905, when a French cargo ship hit a reef and sank near the bay. The unfortunate sailors were buried on the island, leaving a name associated with historical memory.
