1.2. Historical significance, characteristic Buddhist culture

Quang Ninh is the birthplace of the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect, founded by King Tran Nhan Tong in the 13th century. After completing the mission of defending the country against the Mongol invaders, the king chose Yen Tu to become a monk, opening a tradition of deeply intertwined spiritual and secular life in the national culture. This Zen sect emphasizes patriotism, compassion, and wisdom, becoming a solid spiritual foundation for the land of Quang Ninh.

The pagodas in Quang Ninh still preserve many valuable relics from the Tran dynasty, such as Ho Thien Pagoda and ancient stone towers in Van Don. The pagoda architecture is notable for its graceful curved roofs, finely carved wooden pillar systems, and bronze Buddha statues bearing the mark of time. Annually, many major Buddhist festivals, such as the Yen Tu festival, are held, gathering numerous Buddhists here, creating a traditional community space.
